About GE HealthCare

GE HealthCare is on a mission to make healthcare more precise, personalized, and accessible using AI and cloud solutions. Their centralized Science & Technology organization works on everything from medical imaging foundation models to LLMs for clinical efficiency. If you've ever wanted to see your research actually help doctors and patients, this is the place.

Role Overview

This is a full-time remote internship for PhD students (or exceptional Master's students) who are actively working in AI/ML. You'll be developing next-gen deep learning solutions—think vision foundation models, large language models, multimodal phenotyping, and responsible AI—all applied to real healthcare problems. You'll have access to petabytes of data, top-tier computing resources, and domain experts who actually publish at NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, and other leading venues.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with large-scale medical datasets (images, EMRs, waveforms, clinical reports) • Design and develop novel LLM and deep learning algorithms to automate clinical tasks • Run statistical analyses and error estimation to meet accuracy requirements on real patient populations • Build prototypes that can eventually become scalable, product-ready code • Propose new deep learning capabilities and innovative algorithms • Pursue patents and research publications where appropriate • Research emerging tech and industry trends to help guide product development

Qualifications & Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a PhD or Master's program in Computer Science or a related field (or entering a PhD program in fall 2026) • Experience in at least one area: Natural Language Understanding, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization • Comfortable with one or more general purpose languages (Python, Java, C/C++) • Solid experience with Spark/Hadoop and either PyTorch or TensorFlow • Hands-on experience building data analytics and applications in a production-like environment

Must-Have Non-Negotiables

• Currently enrolled in a PhD or Master's program (or accepted into a PhD starting fall 2026) • Strong coding skills and experience with deep learning frameworks • Ability to work remotely within the United States • No visa sponsorship available for this role—must already have work authorization

Nice-to-Have Skills & Bonus Qualifications

• Experience handling noisy, real-world medical or patient data • Prior work with large-scale AI training (think big clusters and long runs) • Familiarity with medical imaging, clinical reports, or electronic medical records • A research mindset—you're already thinking about your next publication

Perks & Employee Benefits

• Competitive pay: $45–$62 per hour • Fully remote—work from anywhere in the US • Access to petabytes of real healthcare data and state-of-the-art compute • Work alongside researchers who publish at top AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ACL, etc.) • Opportunity to contribute to patents and publications • Work that actually impacts medicine and patient care, not just benchmarks
